Transform Your Research

with Expert Scientific Illustrations

What I can do for you

Description

My background as a scientist allows me to quickly understand your research, read your papers, and ask the right questions. This deep understanding of scientific content helps me craft visuals that are not only visually convincing but also accurate and intuitively convey complex information.

Description

Effective graphics allow key information to be captured quickly and clearly, aiding in the communication of your work to editors, peers, stakeholders, and the broader audience and increasing the visibility of your research.

Description

Creating an illustration can be time-consuming and demands special skills and software. This can be especially stressful during the final stages of a project. I am here to take on these tasks, leaving more time and resources for you and your team to focus on the scientific work and advance your research.

Description

As a scientific illustrator, I specialize in creating clear, impactful illustrations for a diverse range of scientific topics, whether for academic publications, science communication or fund-raising. I ensure that the quality of your illustrations matches the excellence of your research!

Added value beyond individual figures or publications
  • I create all figures and illustrations with an adept, unique style, including color palette, font styles and sizes and specific design elements. If my figures are to be part of a series, I am happy to consult your team and provide you with the specifications you need to give your publication a coherent, professional appearance.
  • I place great value on aesthetics, and complement a keen eye with a deep understanding of important design aspects such as accessibility, including considerations for visual impairments. I ensure that data is represented accurately and intuitively, utilizing techniques like perceptually uniform color scales and effective scaling practices. This combination allows me to create designs that are not only visually appealing and accurate but also accessible and easy to interpret for all users.
  • I specialize in creating high-quality illustrations tailored to your specific needs and the anticipated publication format. Understanding that you may want to reuse these visuals in various contexts, such as presentations or educational materials, I provide versatile file formats that facilitate easy adaptation. If desired, I’m happy to create multiple versions of your illustrations to suit different occasions, ensuring that your work is always visually impactful and accessible. Collaborating with me means you receive not only stunning visuals but also the flexibility to use them across different platforms.
  • Besides scientific illustration, graphic design and data visualization, I also have expertise in data analysis, layout and typesetting and I am happy to support your project through the whole (publication) process.

How the collaboration looks like

1. Assessment of your needs

The base of our collaboration is a detailed conversation about your needs regarding context and content: What is the purpose of the figure? What are the core messages and essential aspects? What additional context should be conveyed beyond the bare data? I welcome initial sketches and design ideas to guide our discussions and am happy to assist in choosing the layout and file format that suit your needs and take care of your publisher’s specifications.

2. Research

I’m keen to review your papers or drafts, ask questions, and immerse myself in the topic. This is not only about the factual context, but also about disciplin-specific conventions and about elaborating how my work will integrate into yours to compliment it. My ideas and the feedback I give from my outside perspective have been very well received by former clients.

3. Drafting and iteration

Together, we will refine your vision through iterative drafts, ensuring that the final product aligns with your expectations.

4. Hand-over

You are provided with the final design or product in the initially agreed format and you are free to use and alter them to your needs. I am always happy about attribution or acknoledgement but understand that this is not necessarily appropriate in every context.

Let’s collaborate!

Whether you have data to explore, a scientifc text that could use visual support or expert formatting, a brilliant technical idea that you wish to make accessible to a broader audience, or simply wish for professional advice regarding your own work, I am happy to help! Just send me an e-mail with your inquiry and discuss options of collaboration.
